FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Eight teens are being charged with inciting a riot at a juvenile detention facility in Fort Walton Beach.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office announced the charges on Sunday.
The riot happened Saturday night at the Gulf Coast Treatment Center, a detention facility contracted by the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice. Deputies were called to the scene after reports that the teens were assaulting the staff and damaging facility property. Police also arrived to help control the situation.
Staff members say some of the teens began throwing chairs and flipping tables. A sheriff's office statement says one teen took a staffer's radio and began speaking gang jargon.
Law enforcement brought the situation under control and transported the eight teens to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Crestview.
No injuries were reported.
