The pastor of a church in Decatur, Georgia says Marquel Peters, his family and some others in the congregation were there for the late night Thursday, December 31 services when the shooting occurred.

Marquel was sitting in a smaller sanctuary with about 150 other people when someone in the assembly heard a popping sound and saw debris fall from the ceiling.

The child had been struck in the head by the bullet. Marquel's mom held her son in her arms until paramedics arrived.

The youngster was rushed to an area hospital where he later died.

Police say they do not know where the shot came from and are asking for any help or information on the shooting.

Shooting in the air is not illegal.If you are in the city,it is illegal to shoot at all,but in the county,you can shoot anywhere you want.Do you think that people who dove hunt,or duck hunt don't shoot in the air?Also,if you shoot straight up,which cannot be the case here,when the bullet comes back down it will not hurt no more than dropping a bullet off a building onto your head,because once it gets to its highest point,it loses power and is only under the power of gravity.

I have to say this wctv site, or moderators I should say, are apparantly as twisted and demented as WILLIAM. He possts such a classless distasteful comment about an innocent family losing their child and THEY APPROVE AND POST IT. I, in response to his comment, try to post a comment without any profanity or negativity, letting him know how low down and classless he is and THEY DENY IT! Imagine that! Says alot about the character of the moderators I guess. It says to me this site is just as heartless and classless as William. Anyway, My prayers are with the Peters Family. May God be with you and bring you comfort in this most difficult time in your lives. I am truly sorry for your loss. The smile on that little boys face in the pic above could light up any room!
