The temperature is dropping and the fish are biting.

But, officials are warning boaters of the dangers of cold water.

Florida Fish and Wildlife officials say boaters should be extra careful this time of the year.

Falling into cold water can cause your body to go into shock and make you lose your motor skills.

Experts say that will lead to hypothermia, which is a life-threatening condition that happens when the body's temperature drops below the point where normal body functions occur.

Captain Bill Payne with Tow Boat U.S. Steinhatchee said, "That's a concern. We have a lot of crab trap lines that are floating. Occasionally, I have to get in the water to undo a crab line. You put on wet suits and you plan your attack and get out just as quick as you can ad you're still like ice."

Experts say if you fall into cold water, get out as soon as possible.
If you can't, don't swim, because you lose more heat than you will by treading water.

FWC says if you're wearing a life jacket to draw your knees up; and get medical attention as soon as possible.
