Trucker Troubles in Thomasville

Ed Madden says when he moved into his home on Glenwood Drive two and a half years ago he was expecting a quiet place to retire, but he says that hasn't been the case.

"Glenwood Drive and Edgewood Drive are being used as a bypass to get out to the major highway and the speed limit's 35 miles per hour and they're coming through here at 45 and 50 miles per hour," says Ed.

More than 40 members of the Glenwood Drive community signed a petition asking police to help them with speeders and big trucks coming through their community. Thursday, that's just what police did.

SGT Rachelle Denmark with the Thomasville Police Department says, "Large trucks and dump trucks are not supposed to be on Glenwood Drive at all unless they have official business. If somebody's ordered something or some dirt needs to be hauled in the dump truck, that's a different story."

Police were in place here to catch truckers straying off their routes, but they used the opportunity to ticket drivers for other traffic violations as well.

Dolly Brooks, a motorist, says, "You've got kids in the streets, you've got people that are out and about, everybody needs to be careful."

Police say they have their eyes on residential streets throughout the Rose City and they're working to keep everyone safe. Officers say they will continue to randomly conduct these crackdowns. If you're having a problem with speeders in your area, don't hesitate to call them at 229-227-7075.
