Moody Air Force Base is establishing a new training ground in the nearby city of Moultrie, Georgia. The city of Moultrie couldn't be more proud to have Moody Air Force Base represented in their community.
Robert Hopkins, Moultrie City Manager, says, "We see the real benefit as strengthening Moody's presence in the region and we're just delighted to have an opportunity to support that regional presence and maintain Moody's presence in Valdosta that benefits not only the region, but the world in general."
After a day-long orientation with the airmen and the facilities, civic leaders from Moultrie say Moody's presence at Spence Field is a win-win situation for all.
Brent Maule, a Moultrie resident, says, "I think it’s gonna benefit the community; boost the community pride. We are helping our nation be defended. We are helping to train the best pilots in the world and I'm glad we are a part of it."
LT COL Alan Worley of 479th Operations adds, "Anytime we can interact with the community I think it’s a great thing for the Air Force. That's what we want to do. We are after all supporting the country and the communities we are in, so we want them to understand what were doing and answer any questions they may have."
The Air Force will use Spence Field as an additional training facility for beginning pilots and allows them to simulate many training scenarios. Instructors from Moody Air Force Base will be present in Moultrie by mid-July. Students begin training at Spence Field at the end of August.
