Micha Garen and his Iraqi translator were released after a Shite Cleric's Aide appealed for their freedom.
Garen works for the New York based company Four Corners Media and was in Iraq for a year producing a documentary on the looting of Archaeological sites.
Iraqi Police say the two were kidnapped on Aug. 13 as they were walking through a market in Nasiriyah. Two armed men dressed in civilian clothing seized them.
It is being reported that Garen has been handed over to a Human Rights Organization in Nasiriyah.
Garen said despite his ordeal he will continue to work in Iraq.
