Early Morning Accident on I-10 Leaves One Dead

An early morning crash kills one. 48-year-old Christopher Callaway was driving Saturday morning at 2:15am eastbound on Interstate 10 in the inside lane. Callaway failed to negotiate a curve to the right and the vehicle drifted left in to the center median.

Callaway then over corrected to the right causing him to lose control of his car. The vehicle spun clockwise across both eastbound lanes on Interstate10, entering the south shoulder of the roadway. Callaway continued in a southeast direction of travel, overturning on the south shoulder, then striking a tree with its left side.

After impact with the tree, Callaway's vehicle came to final rest facing westbound on the south shoulder of the roadway. Callaway was taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. According to Florida Highway Patrol, Callaway died. His passenger, 48-year-old Frederick Hewett, was also brought to TMH. According to FHP, he suffered minor injuries.

Alcohol related to this crash is pending based on the findings in the toxicology report.

The Florida Highway Patrol was assisted by the Leon County Sheriff's Office and Leon County Fire Rescue.
