One Florida senator is looking to require shelters to post information online about how often they have to euthanize dogs and cats.
Florida Senate Bill 872 passed unanimously in the Agriculture committee today. The bill's sponsor, Senator Joseph Abruzzo (D) of Palm Beach wants the public to be able to access those statistics.
A number of animal groups and organizations were at the hearing today in support of the new legislation. They hope it will bring about more no-kill shelters.
"This has been a work in progress," said Abruzzo. He also added that this bill will allow more transparency of how the shelters operate.
