Tallahassee, Florida - December 22, 2012
A man is in serious condition after crashing into a culvert Saturday around 1:30AM in Gadsden County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Jose Castaneda, 41, was driving east on CR-270A (Flat Creek Road).
FHP says for unknown reasons, Castaneda left the eastbound travel lane and crossed both lanes of CR-270A.
The release says Castaneda drove onto the shoulder and went 240 feet before striking a culvert with the front of his car.
FHP says the car then vaulted 30 feet and struck the ground with its front as it continued to flip into a ditch.
According to FHP, the car came to final rest on its roof in the ditch facing a westerly direction.
FHP was assisted at the scene by Gadsden County Sheriff's Office and Gadsden County EMS. Castaneda was airlifted by Airmed to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.
FHP says Castaneda was not wearing a seatbelt. A toxicology report is pending.
