Cutting Your Costs At The Supermarket

Thomasville, GA - They call her the Coupon Queen. Kim Weckwert of Thomasville spends about 4 to 5 hours a day looking up coupons online and reading the Sunday ads.

"When I first started out it was like I had just won the lottery," said Weckwert.

Now she looks to help others save as much as she does. Weckwert's website, www.everydaycouponqueen.com is a start for first-time couponers.

"I found that my passion has helped a lot of families."

She posts deals from the newspaper and printable coupons found from stores and products across the Big Bend and south Georgia. Some people might not think they can save big but she disagrees.

"They just need to start small."

In order for Kim to save money there's a thing called overage. For example, let's say a box of Pop Tarts costs a $1.50. Now if she had $1.00 off from the manufacturer and $1.00 off coupon from the store, the box of Pop Tarts would actually bring 50 cents back towards her to buy more groceries like meat and chicken.

Another tip; don't buy one type of brand. If you eat Progressive soup but Campbell's is on sale, you're going to be buying the iconic red and white can.

"You cannot be brand loyal. When you're brand loyal, it's going to cost you financially."

Don't even think about impulse buying.

"I try to stay on that list so that I know what I'm going to pay at the cash register."

Some employees at the Publix where she shops a lot are taking notes when it comes to savings.

"In passing, she's provided great tips for us," said Publix employee Morgan Colvin.

"I've actually heard a few things from her here or there," said Andrew McCarthy. "It's a great way to do it."

A trip to the grocery store where WCTV followed Weckwert around cost her $169.10. With her coupons and overage saving more than $120, the total Weckwert paid was just $47.79.
