Medart, FL - January 19, 2013
Wakulla County Fire and EMS units were dispatched to the report of a house fire at 8:17 P.M. WCSO deputies arrived first and advised that the house had been evacuated and reported heavy flames. The Single wide mobile home had two additions and a second roof had been constructed over the original roof.
Reportedly the occupants had been cooking when they received a report that one of their children, visiting relatives next door, had received a minor injury. After checking on the child they returned home to find flames coming from the windows.
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control within twenty minutes but not before the residence was totally destroyed. Water had to be transported to the scene by fire department tankers. Units from six different volunteer stations responded along with the on duty career crew and Wakulla County EMS.
Firefighters spent over three hours on the scene in 38 degree weather.
There were no injuries. The Tallahassee chapter of the American Red Cross was called by WCSO to assist the family.
