Over at the Al Lawson Center hundreds of FAMU graduates were given their diplomas.

This also marks the first graduation ceremony attended by new president Dr. Elmira Mangum. Dozens of degrees were earned in a number of schools including business, nursing and journalism.

For many, all the hard work had finally paid off.

"Just seeing all the people out here you know just having family and friends support you it's all good," said graduate Rickey Morris. "I'm happy right now."

"I feel great," said graduate Jacquelin Grant. "I feel like a big relief has been lifted off my shoulders to be done with school for now and I have a job right now so I'm in a happy place"
