UPDATE Feb. 8, 2012 11:11pm
FAMU's President receives what trustees call an "eye-opening" experience.
Trustees evaluated Dr. James Ammons' performance, and they didn't hold back.
"Average." That's how a FAMU trustee describes university president Dr. James Ammons.
That's also the average answer given during Dr. Ammons' evaluation.
"From the poor to excellent range, the president did well and better than good."
A facilitator read aloud comments from trustees during the informal evaluation at the Alumni House Wednesday night.
"Some progress is real and there is some moving forward. However, the progress does not include some key programs and fundraising is at a low point."
The evaluation covers Dr. Ammons' performance between July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011.
Some of the trustees say the university president made impressive gains in university relations, and met the student recruitment and retention goals.
One comment read, "He did reach the goal of starting up three new online programs. We're also making key decisions."
Another comment said, "He's managing to move forward and get done all that is possible under surprising difficult circumstances."
A recurring complaint was the lack of fundraising.
"He has not been sufficiently impressive with what he is focused on. We needed him to make important decisions."
Dr. Ammons did not want to comment on his evaluation, but, when a trustee asked how he felt, he said he was surprised.
Dr. Ammons said, "The inconsistencies. Some board members said that I was strong and one area, some say it was the lowest area; and the different weights of the various skill sets. That is kind of surprising."

UPDATE Feb. 8, 2012 4:28 PM
The report from FAMU's Public Safety Department lists 22 reports of hazing from August 25, 2007 to January 10, 2012.
The student affairs committee is also drafting dress standards for FAMU students. Trustees say it's not to enforce a dress code or stifle students' expressions, but to promote a new positive image and a message of dressing for success.
Eyewitness News is working to get the report from trustees that lists the number of reports of hazing from January 2007 to 2011.
FAMU police chief Calvin Ross gave a student safety update. He says there have not been any hazing reports since a December incident.
Trustee and SGA President Breyon Love says the Student Affairs Committee is working on putting an anti-hazing agreement online. Students would not be able to continue with registration without clicking accept or deny.

I do not understand. FAMU has no money, laying off people, etc, but can still hire a PR Firm. What the Hell. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND. Oh and by the way while they were hiring this PR Firm, did they raise tuition on these poor, let me say it, please African American students who come to this school, some because this is the only college they can get into. Another, and when they get into FAMU are they being given the best education because of all the mess? I do not hate FAMU, I just want them to get their act together. And, we all know from personal experience that before we can get our personal mess straight, we have consequences, and we have to get honest and then start improvement. Look at any 12 Step program. The first step is realizing we are powerless ..... and from personal experience this means givinag up control issues, etc and to do this we have to get honest. Some even have to put themselves in legal harms way to do this. But in the end it all works out for the better. There is a lot more I could say but I do not have the space and time.
Hey LOL We have a right to investigate these things; FAMU does not belong to FAMU or anybody, they answer to the government, statues, the Feds, and most of all the tax payers, and I am a tax payor and so is Mark I do not care what is race is. And, rather it is FAMU, Gainsville, or any other white school, this needs to stop. I feel one of the reasons that FAMU ends up in the media, is because when things happen at FAMU it turns out to be so crazy and unbeliveable, one just can't wrap their minds around it. FAMU belongs to the tax payors period.
If this is true. This is just like FAMU. Lying, Minipulation, etc what ever is illegal, HA. I hope they get caught up in their mess. This is bad; worse than we might think. But, you know what, I am thinking of the measure of education the students will get. Ex, when the students get out in the real world, how perparied will they be. Because this kind of stuff pores over into all areas. I hate this for the students. And, the students who have lost their lives and been injured due to FAMU's Mess. I would not pay for my child to attend FAMU at this time, I would feel it might be a waste of my money and my child's efforts. Get this fixed. About, this evaluation of the President, it is a joke.
