Court records show that Deloris Speed entered a no contest plea this week to charges of fraud and official misconduct.

Sentencing is set for November 20th.

January 13, 2011 -

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement yesterday arrested a former Florida Department of Revenue employee on charges of grand theft and official misconduct. Deloris James Speed, 47, of Tallahassee, allegedly falsified tax payment receipts to reflect amounts that were less than the amounts actually collected and kept the difference.

The Florida Department of Revenue’s Office of Inspector General referred the case to FDLE in December 2010 after the discrepancies were identified during a routine tax audit. The investigation found that between October 2007 and December 2008, Speed took in sales tax revenues from a local business, provided a receipt to the business reflecting the correct amount they remitted, and then falsified the records being retained at DOR to indicate collection of a lower amount. Investigators allege Speed falsified information on tax payments for a total charge of theft greater than $300 and less than $5,000.

Speed was booked into the Leon County Jail, and bond was set at $5,000. The investigation is ongoing.

The depatment was told about her along time ago but did nothing about it.She has took kick backs for years. Even on her 2nd job in the Tallahassee mail. It's not about all State worker. It's about the bad ones that get away with this kind of stuff for years. This is just my opinion.

Anonymous on Jan 14, 2011 at 03:50 PM, Please tell me how much Crist was paying people in these same positions. Scott can not spend any money that the legislature doesn't allow him to.

@Mad as heck: It's good that you're supportive of your friend. I have to ask you though, what makes you think FDLE is stupid enough to arrest someone without some solid proof beforehand? How many lawsuits have you heard about where FDLE makes a false arrest? Also, to enlighten you, many people who are well off financially do indeed steal. It's a secret power thrill for them...until they get caught! As I mentioned to Lori, sometimes you don't know people as well as you think and that's just the sad truth.
