News Release: Wakulla County Sheriff's Office
Five law enforcement agencies combined to locate a missing Wakulla County child Wednesday, Nov 13 less than four hours after the child was reported missing, according to Wakulla County Sheriff Charlie Creel.
Tanner Rushinal, 11, walked away from Wakulla Christian School without permission. The WCSO was contacted about the missing boy at 5:38 p.m. Wakulla Sheriff’s Office personnel set up search units throughout Crawfordville and were joined by representatives of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and Wakulla Correctional Institution (WCI). WCI responded with their prison tracking dogs.
The WCI K-9 tracked the route of the boy through a wooded area east of U.S. Highway 319 to East Ivan Road north of Crawfordville.
A concerned citizen called the WCSO shortly after 9 p.m. after observing the juvenile walking southbound on U.S. Highway 319. The WCI K-9 Unit was following closely behind on East Ivan Road at the time the child was located.
WCSO Sgt. Billy Jones arrived at a strip mall near Wal-Mart and confirmed that a juvenile observed in the strip mall parking lot was Tanner Rushinal. Sgt. Jones returned the child to his father at Wakulla Springs Baptist Church unharmed.
“I want to thank all of the agencies involved in the search,” said Sheriff Creel. “We were pleased to be able to combine our resources for a successful ending to this investigation.”
