Authorities in Florida's Panhandle say a Florida State University student from Kuwait was found dead in the Chipola River.

The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office tells reporters that 19-year-old Saud Alajmi was one of several Florida State students that had been visiting the river near Altha.

The sheriff's office says two passers-by alerted authorities to the body they found Saturday in about 10 feet of water near a bridge west of Altha.

Additional details were not immediately available.

ALTHA, Fla. (AP) -- Authorities in Florida's Panhandle say a Florida State University student from Kuwait was found dead in the Chipola River.

The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office tells The News Herald that the 19-year-old man was one of several Florida State students that had been visiting the river near Altha. The man's name was not released pending notification of next of kin.

The sheriff's office says two passers-by alerted authorities to the body they found Saturday in about 10 feet of water.
