TALLAHASSEE, Fla. 9-20-13

An early morning sexual assault on Florida State's campus is being investigated.

FSUPD tell us the victim knows her accused attacker. At 2:30 a.m. the department was called out to a sexual assault on campus. A thirty-year-old woman says she was assaulted in the Westcott parking lot near Ruby Diamond Auditorium.

The victim is an FSU alum.

"She had been with a male acquaintance," said FSUPD deputy chief Jim Russell. "They had been out together just as friends. [They] came onto campus early in the morning to tour campus."

After pulling into the parking lot, the woman says while they were in the twenty-seven year old man's car, he forced himself on top of her and assaulted her. Police say later that the man dropped off the victim at the corner of Copeland and Tennessee streets where she dialed 911.

Police did serve a search warrant on the car and have spoken with the man about the case.

"We're going to investigate very aggressively and get to the bottom of what happened and if there is charges to be put forward, there will be."

With thousands of people coming to Tallahassee this weekend for the Seminole football game, the FSUPD wants to use this case to teach women what to do if they're assaulted.

Terri Brown teaches RAD classes which stands for Rape Aggression Defense. She says if a woman is assaulted, the sooner she contacts police, the better.

"If she calls us right away, we have an opportunity to get the evidence and start our case," said Brown

No charges have been filed as the investigation continues.
