Press Release: Gadsden County Classroom Teachers' Association

Quincy, FL – The Gadsden County Classroom Teachers’ Association and the Gadsden County School Board have been in negotiations since early August and have reached an agreement that includes a $1900 salary increase for teachers who received an effective or highly effective rating during the 2012-2013 school year.

“Gadsden County teachers are some of best in the state and are well deserving of this raise,” said Ronte Harris, GCCTA President.

This raise has been highly anticipated since Governor Scott’s announcement earlier this year that all teachers would receive a raise. Teachers will begin receiving the raise in December and it will be retroactive to July. Superintendent Reginald James has been in support of the teacher raise from the beginning and he supported the union’s rush to get it to the teachers as soon as possible.

Moreover, the new teachers’ contract includes language that allows for the transfer of sick leave to any Gadsden County school employee and provides provisions that allow teachers the opportunity to develop plans for a duty free lunch.

Harris says he looks forward to future collaborations with the Superintendent and the school board.
