GAINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) -- A Gainesville woman accused of concealing her HIV status from her former husband has been sentenced to 2 years in prison.
A Hall County Superior Court judge sentenced 36-year-old Heather Nix Saturday to 10 years on a charge of reckless conduct. Nix is ordered to serve two years in prison and eight on probation.
The Gainesville Times reports Nix was accused of withholding information on her HIV status from her husband for eight years until she was hospitalized with a gall bladder condition in 2009.
Nix said she learned that she was HIV positive after being hospitalized in 1998 and that she told her husband about her condition before they began a sexual relationship.
