Tallahassee, FL-December 19, 2012
Members of the group known as 'The Action' are asking Congress to end the Bush Tax Cuts for the richest 2 percent while keeping the tax breaks for the Middle-Class.
Four people dropped off about 20 letters Wednesday at Representative Steve Southerland's Tallahassee office.
The members say the letters are from people asking the Representative not to raise taxes on the Middle-Class.
They say the letters are from people in Leon and Gadsden counties are from people of all different ages, backgrounds and economic incomes.
Southerland's office released this statement:
"Representative Southerland has opposed efforts to raise taxes throughout his time in Congress, and he opposes efforts to raise taxes now. That said, he's frustrated that tax relief for hardworking families could be used as a political pawn to avoid making necessary choices to save medicare and social security. Unlike some in Washington, Representative Southerland doesn't believe that providing meaningful tax relief and strengthening these vital programs need to be mutually exclusive. He expects solutions that can achieve both goals."
