Health Officials Help Mothers Fight Premature Births

Updated: Fri 10:54 PM, Nov 16, 2012

Valdosta, GA - Any mother would agree the most important thing is having a healthy baby. And that is just what local health officials want too.

It is "Prematurity Awareness Month" nationwide. It puts emphasis of the importance of women having a full term pregnancy which is anything beyond 37 weeks.

You can do that by exercising, laying off the tobacco and alcohol. And keeping your perinatal appointments.

"Be healthy. Keep your OBGYN appointments. And if you have any complications, any feeling that something is not right, call your doctor," said Tiffany Crowell, Perinatal Executive Director for the South Health District. "There is no question that should go unanswered during a pregnancy."
