Valdosta, GA - Hundreds took time out Thursday night to tell our Boys In Blue a simple message: thank you.
It's the sixth annual "Law Enforcement Appreciation Banquet" in Valdosta. Organizers say it was the biggest one ever with about 500 people attending.
The dinner was a virtual who's-who of Lowndes County leadership. They all came out to say thanks, right up to Georgia's attorney general.
"To me, we take for granted that they risk their lives on a daily basis to protect us. So programs such as tonight are really the least we can do to show them we care about them," said Sam Olens, Georgia Attorney General.
These guys rush to our rescue in an emergency, but who's there for them? That's what the banquet is all about. Proceeds go into a special fund for the various departments to draw from when they have an emergency, like an officer's house burning down.
