Leon County Release
Tallahassee, FL - Leon County will host a grand opening ceremony at 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 21 for the newly constructed Lake Jackson Community Center, 3840 N. Monroe St., Suite 301.
The new state-of-the-art community center, which is roughly 3,000 square feet, is housed in the Lake Jackson Town Center at Huntington, at the intersection of North Monroe St. (US-27) and Fred George Road. The new center is housed with two different meeting rooms – one large and another medium sized.
The large meeting room has a seating capacity of about 120 seats and boasts a built-in projector with multi-media hookups to enable computer training. The medium meeting room can seat a maximum of about 30 people. It contains a large 52-inch television wired for multi-media purposes. Between the two rooms rests a warming kitchen complete with refrigerator, ice maker and microwave.
The Lake Jackson Community Center was constructed to support the needs of a growing community surrounding the North Monroe Street site. Initial improvements to the Lake Jackson Town Center at Huntington started with a renovation to the Lake Jackson Branch Library, which was completed in August 2012.
The completion of the community center further enhances the redeveloped site as a true sense of place initiative – meaning a desirable destination for Northwest Leon County.
Immediately following the grand opening ceremony, the Leon County Senior Outreach Program will host the center’s first event – a Lunch & Learn featuring exhibitors, health screenings and guest speakers. Reservations are requested. Please contact the Tallahassee Senior Center and Foundation at (850) 891-4065.
