The Leon County Sales tax committee has the unenviable task of trying to stretch its almost $38M sales tax revenue across multiple community projects.
David Powell and his client Powerhouse, Inc. would like a piece of the pie.
"We're suggesting that some of that money be earmarked for constructing a road network for the Northeastern Part of the city that would be used to serve a new interchange on I -10," David Powell, Proposing New I-10 Interchange, said.
The proposed area is current land that was green lit for urban development back in 1990.
That interchange, based on the studies we've seen today, has the promise to relieve congestion on Thomasville Rd. US 90 as well as two protected canopy roads.
The land would be around the Miccosukee Canopy Road Greenway, with a walking bridge over it. Committee members say that because this is a long way out, they need much more info, but they are interested.
"I think if you're looking at things that are going to peak 10 years out, 15 years out, I think it's hard for us to understand how far in advance you have to plan for that, but this is one of those things you have to plan that far in advance for," Kim Williams, Leon County Sales Tax Committee, said.
Powell and his group were invited back to the next meeting on May 9th for a more detailed conceptual presentation.
