Thomasville, GA- Law enforcement officers in our area want to improve the safety of children riding in vehicles.
Parents stopped by Big Lots in Thomasville Friday for a free child safety seat check.
Local police and deputies worked with drivers to educate them on the proper way to secure small children.
They warn drivers that car seats do expire and that if you've been in an accident, that car seat needs to be replaced.
"We check to see if their car seat is properly installed, is it the correct one for the child and if it's a car seat that's expired or it's broke, something is wrong with it, not the proper one, we're replacing the car seats to the public," said Captain Liz Croley with the Decatur County Sheriff's Office.
If you missed Friday's event, it's not too late. Thomasville Police say any concerned parent is welcome to give them a call and they'll be happy to check your child's safety seat. That number is: 229) 227-3249.
