Colquitt County, GA - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says it's an arrest 18 years in the making.
It all started in 1996, when the GBI says they investigated a man for alleged child molestation. They didn't have evidence then to make an arrest, but after almost two decades, that man is behind bars.
The GBI says 69 year-old, William Michael Curnutte, of Hartsfield,Georgia was arrested last week. He is charged with two counts of enticing a child for indecent purposes, one count of aggravated sodomy, one count of child molestation, and one count of aggravated child molestation. Steven Turner, with the GBI says his office reopened the case after the Mitchell County Sheriff's Office received a complaint from someone in the community about the closed case.
"Mr. Curnutte was alleged to have molested muliple victims at that point, but we didn't have enough where we could actually make an arrest. At least investigators at the time felt like they didn't, but now new evidence has come to light as well as a new victim with better evidence", says Turner.
Turner says other victims have come forward but charges could not be filed because the Statute of Limitations ran out.
He says the six charges filed against Curnutte are for crimes against one victim.
Turner also says the investigation is ongoing anyone with information on the case should call the GBI at 229-225-4090. Curnutte is currently being held at the Mitchell County Jail.
