Reports of Nearby Gunshots Place Local Schools on Lockdown

Leon County, FL - According to John Hunkiar, Director of Safety, Security, and Emergency Management for Leon County Schools, Montford Middle School and Roberts Elementary School were locked down for about 20 minutes this afternoon because of reports of gun shots on private property adjacent to the schools.

The schools are both located on Pimlico Drive in northeast Leon County. Hunkiar says there was no immediate security threat to the schools, but they did a great job of enacting their lockdown plans.

Tallahassee, FL - A lockdown was issued at Montford Middle School in Tallahassee at 2:19pm this afternoon.

The lockdown was lifted at 2:45pm.

WCTV has been told by school personnel that the lockdown was issued by the Leon County Sheriff's Office.
