International Table Top Game day is a world wide event where people who enjoy board games get together to play new and old board games as a group. This years event in Tallahassee centers on Lofty Pursuits with a whole day of gaming events.
This annual event is held in the memory of James Hamelton, a regular Tallahassee gamer who died in 2013. All proceeds from this event will be donated in his name to NAMI, a national support charity.
We will be having some of the luminaries of game design as virtual guests for this event as they Skype into the store via the Big Screen. They will take questions and hopefully give answers about game design, new games and the history of board gaming.
This years guests include:
- James Ernest: Creator of Kill Doctor Lucky, Give me the Brain, Unexploded Cow
- Alan Moon: Creator of Ticket to Ride
- Matt Leacock: Creator of Pandemic, Forbidden Island and Forbidden desert.
Times will be posted at www.Loftypursuits.com as they become available.
We also will be having a charity raffle for donated gaming prizes, and a charity Ticket to Ride Tournament, where the winner will get a rare translucent set of the gaming pieces.
More events will be posted at www.Loftypursuits.com when they are finalized.
What many people do not know is that board gaming has come a long way from the traditional games of the 1950's like Monopoly and Trouble. Moder games like Flux, Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride and a host of other games have brought gaming to the modern age. There are even lines of games designed to be played with children that are pre-readers that are still enjoyable by adults. This move to multi generational gaming is new, and is a lot of fun for the whole family.
So bring your favorite game, try one of our demo games, or just find someone in the store to play a game with. It will be a fun day no matter when you arrive.
Market Square is in the Market District on Timberlane Road, right off Thomasville Road and I-10.
The event is free and open to the public. We have an additional gaming night on the fourth Friday of the month.
