Associated Press Release
PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) -- A Pensacola man who stabbed his neighbor 42 times -- though didn't kill him -- has been sentenced to 60 years in prison.
An Escambia County judge sentenced 27-year-old Bret Craven on Thursday. He pleaded no contest in May to attempted first-degree murder.
Authorities say Craven entered 58-year-old Robert Boyleston's home in January 2012 and started stabbing the other man. Boyleston testified that he did nothing to provoke Craven. Boyleston said Craven told him, "I want to watch every drop of blood drain out of you."
Craven and his attorney argued that Craven acted out of a temporary psychosis that resulted from his withdrawal from drugs.
The Pensacola News Journal (http://goo.gl/sLCBt ) reports that the judge rejected those claims, citing Craven's criminal history as evidence of his violent tendencies.
