Man Indicted in Taylor County for First Degree Murder

Taylor County, FL - November 8, 2012 - 10:05pm - A man accused of killing a man and dumping his body on the side of the road has just been indicted by a grand jury.

Raymond Lee was arrested September in connection with the murder of Derek Dixon, 44.

Dixon's body was found in a wooded area off of Highway 98 in Taylor county.

Officials initially arrested Lee for tampering with evidence. Last week, a grand jury indicted him on first degree murder charges.

The state attorney's office said all first degree murder charges must be reviewed by a grand jury.

Lee has been held in the Taylor county jail without bond since his arrest.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement Office Tallahassee Regional Operations Center, and the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office today arrested Raymond Mark Lee, 41, of Perry, Fla., for one count of murder in the death of Derek Lamont Dixon, 44. The Perry Police Department also provided assistance with this investigation.

The investigation began Sunday after hunters discovered the body of Dixon off of Highway 98 in Taylor County.

Investigators conducted an extensive investigation which led them to 203 Puckett Road, Perry, Fla. and made contact with the suspect, late last night. While at the scene, information was developed which implicated Lee in the death of Dixon. Lee was arrested without incident.

The cause of death is not being released at this time.

Lee was booked into Taylor County Jail.

[UPDATE] September 12, 2012- 11:57am

We now know the identity of a man whose body was found on the side of a local road. Investigators believe his death was no accident.

Investigators with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement say the victim is 44 year old Derek Dickson.

Taylor County Sheriff's deputies say over the weekend, someone found Dickson's body off of U.S. Highway 98 West and called the sheriff's office.

The body was found about 10 miles outside of Perry.

The sheriff had said that they suspect foul play in the case.

Today, investigators are at a home on Puckett Road in Perry.

FDLE will not confirm that the investigation at this home is connected to Dickson's death, but they do say they plan on releasing more information in the case in the next hour.

[UPDATE] September 11, 2012- 7:10 p.m.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement suspects foul play in the death of Derek Lamont Dixon, 44, an African American man found dead on the side of the road.

Officials say local hunters found Dixon's body in a heavily wooded area in Taylor County off of U.S. 98.

The hunters made the discovery Sunday afternoon and contacted authorities.

Taylor County, FL--We are still trying to get details on this developing story.

What we do know is that the Perry Police Department has confirmed that a person's body was found on U.S. 98 in Taylor County.

Someone made the discovery last night.

The Sheriff's Office is working the case.

And we have not been able to reach an investigator to get more details.

We do not know if the victim is a male or female or if deputies suspect foul play in the case.
