Man to stand trial on extortion, child porn

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- A north Florida man has been found competent to stand trial on federal charges associated with tricking hundreds of girls into sending him sexual images and threatening to post those images online.

The Florida Times-Union reports that the trial for 30-year-old Lucas Chansler, who was indicted in 2010, is set for Aug. 25.

He has been receiving mental health treatment in a federal medical center in North Carolina since being indicted on 15 counts including extortion and production of child pornography.

Authorities say Chansler tricked young girls on social media sites like Facebook into sex-related web chats, where he filmed them exposing themselves without their knowledge.

Authorities say he threatened to post the images if they didn't do more.

Chansler's attorney, Alan Rosner, would not comment.
