OCALA, Fla. (AP) -- A north Florida woman whose 2-year-old son died after eating an oxycodone pill has been sentenced to four years in prison.

A Marion County judge sentenced 24-year-old Tiffany Baker on Thursday. A jury previously convicted her of child neglect with great bodily harm. She had initially been charged with aggravated manslaughter, but the judge threw out that charge during trial after determining the state hadn't proven the crime's elements.

Baker and her then-boyfriend, 35-year-old Kalin Halchak, were arrested in 2009 after the death of Jasper Michael Sawyer.

Baker's attorney argued that she was a battered person in an abusive relationship, and Halchak prevented her from helping her son.

The Ocala Star-Banner (http://goo.gl/dYWmwg) reports that Halchak was previously convicted of aggravated manslaughter and sentenced to 30 years in prison.
