Associated Press Release
MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) -- The mother of a baby fatally shot in his stroller in coastal Georgia has taken the stand for the second day.
Sherry West gave tearful testimony Tuesday about the killing of her son at a suspect's murder trial. When proceedings ended for the day, she was still being cross examined by the defense.
DeMarquise (deh-mahr-KEES') Elkins is charged with murder in the March 21 killing of 13-month-old Antonio Santiago in Brunswick.
Prosecutors say Antonio was killed in an attempted robbery and that evidence implicates Elkins. West was wounded in the shooting.
The trial is being held near Atlanta because of pretrial publicity.
If convicted of murder, 18-year-old Elkins faces up to life in prison. His mother is on trial alongside him on charges of evidence tampering and lying to police.
