Thomas County, GA - What now stands as a pile of rubble was once the family home belonging to an elderly woman, Lowette Rogers and hers on Ladd Rogers. Both were killed in an early morning house fire in Pavo, GA. It took more than three hours and 25 firefighters to put out the blaze.

"As other units arrived on scene we established our water supply and we had multiple units and multiple stations there," said Chief Chris Jones, Thomas County Fire Rescue.

Sisters, Niesha and Kiea Hill were neighbors with the Rogers. They said they couldn't believe what happened.

"Shocked that it happen, that it happen around here because nothing really happens around Pavo like this. This is my first time ever seeing a big fire," said Niesha Hill.

According to the last census the City of Pavo has more than 600 people and the residents in the area said a tragedy like this affect everyone.

"When they mentioned the folks name we were really sad and you know just can't go back to sleep you sit there and worry for the family you know. It's just a sad situation," said Bill Johnson.

The cause of the fire is still unknown and we're told State Fire Marshals will be on scene investigating on Monday. Chief Jones did say he asked neighbors if they knew of a smoke alarm inside the home. Chief Jones said he was told no by neighbors and said if a smoke alarm had been installed in the home it could have prevented the fatalities.
