Parents Arrested After Fracturing Infant's Skull

Valdosta, Ga. -- On April 6, 2013, Valdosta Police Department personnel responded to a call from the Lowndes County Department of Family and Children Services regarding an injured 6 week old baby.

The baby was transported to South Georgia Medical Center from the In Town Suites, 1558 Bay tree Road, Valdosta, GA and had a suspected head injury. The infant girl was found to have a skull fracture and was later transported to Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida.

Detectives with the Valdosta Police Department investigated the case, and subsequently, arrest warrants were obtained on the parents of the child, Michael Quick, 19 years of age and Alizabeth Ledbetter, 20 years of age.

Quick and Ledbetter have been charged with one count each of Cruelty to Children, a felony in the State of Georgia. Quick and Ledbetter were arrested today (5/2/13) and are currently being held at the Lowndes County Jail pending a court appearance.

The family had been in Valdosta for approximately three months prior to the birth of their child and are from Texas.

The child was released from Shands Hospital in April and is in the custody of the State of Georgia and has been placed in a foster home. The child is recovering from her injuries.

Currently this is an active investigation and further details regarding the injury to the child will not be released at this time. Additional charges may be pending in this case.
