Parents Blame Python Sentencing on Casey Anthony

"It's not right. We let a murderer go free." says Laurie Darnell, a relative.
Laurie Darnell says it's outrageous her step-son and his girlfriend are going to prison even though they fully cooperated with investigators, unlike Casey Anthony who got off scott free.

"And she's gonna make millions. And his kids are gonna suffer without him," Darnell says.

Charles Darnell and Jaren Hare were both sentenced to 12 years in prison for manslaughter after 2-year-old Shaianna Hare was strangled to death by their pet python.

Their defense attorney said the jury was influenced by what happened during the Anthony trial.

"The jury wanted to make an example after Casey Anthony," says Rhiannon Arnold, Charles Darnell's defense attorney.

The couple plans to appeal the decision.

Darnell's attorney says the Anthony acquittal pressured the jurors to convict Darnell and Hare when the death of the child was just an accident.

"Certainly, the fact that our case went the week after Casey Anthony was acquitted of all charges, after going 31 days, allegedly, without claiming her child was missing definitely had an impact on my case, certainly," Arnold says.

But prosecutors told the judge what happened other cases had nothing to do with the fact that Darnell and Hare allowed the python to escape its tank repeatedly and never had a license to own a wild animal.

"To the Casey Anthony case, I'm not concerned. I don't consider that. Just like i don't consider what occurred in the o.J. Simpson case years and years back," says the prosecutor.

LOVE THE JURY WHO GOT IT RIGHT??? What kind of stupid people do not believe these two idiots are responsible. They may as well have strangled the child themselves!!! God made parents for a reason - to love and protect children. If PARENTS do not perform these two duties when the child is in their care - WHAT PURPOSE DO THEY SERVE? THESE TWO MAGGOT-IDIOTS DESERVE TO GO TO PRISON!!!!

They had enough evidence to convict Casey just had 12 dumb juror's thats all. They should be in big trouble if my kids ever brought a snake home that snake would die a horrible death! those should be outlawed!! there is no purpose to a snake sorry expecially when you have children in the home! I hate snakes and I hope these parents get in some serious trouble and blame Casey they should say she should be sitting right along with them in jail!! idiots!

You know, these parents had no business owning a deadly animal such as a python with a small child in the home. Additionally, with them choosing to own said animal, they should have at the very least taken extra precautions to ensure that the animal was locked up AWAY from the toddler, perhaps even in a different building. However, I see where they are coming from. Casey Anthony murders her child, eludes investigators, and gets off scott free? Charges in this case, where are the child neglect charges? Manslaughter, that's when it's an accident, right? So then the charges were appropriate, and FL proved that once in a while the people down there have a light bulb go off and actually do the right thing, unlike they did in the Casey Anthony case. But to blame their sentence on CA? I think that's going a little too far. Their child's death could have been prevented BY THEM, therefore they are responsible for the death of their child, simply by neglecting to take the necessary precautions that go along with owning a dangerous animal. Therefore, they are at fault and should be convicted appropriately. Casey Anthony herself though...that was one of Florida's stupid attacks...the case should have NEVER EVER been let go the way it was. There was more than enough evidence to convict her, because she was responsible for that child, and she was the last one to have that child.

Good sentence. Yes Casey Anthony did something as irresponsible or worse to cause her daughters death. Jury said insuffient evidence. Jury in this case said suffient evidence. Other than they are parent(s) of a child and they were irresponsible (or worse), I don't see a connection..... Defense lawyer talk

come on.. get real. When you have children you need to be responsible and grow up. Having a dangerous snake in the house is looking for trouble and I think they got what they deserved. Hopefully this will teach people to take accountability and prioritize their children first. When will people grow up and be responsible parents?

You are more disgusting than Casey Anthony. You say these parents got what they deserve because they had a pet, and were raising a child. Evidently is is lost on your peon brain that a child is dead. I bet you think that is just and all, but I hope when Casey Anthony gets punishment, eventually, one way or another, that you are standing right next to her in line. Scum Bag!

I can't see any relevance between 2 parents having a python loose in their home that killed their child and Casey Anthony. Both parties were guilty and one got off . Neither party deserves any mercy.

The correct sentence was imposed...Let's start taking responsibility for ourselves and stop blaming others

Was the snake allowed to roam free unattended? Dogs attack all the time, scissors get left out, pools are left unattended - gas lines leak - so many unfortunate deaths that COULD be prevented. A 12 year sentence on top of losing a child that was not directly at their hands or intended is extremely harsh. I believe there should be consequences if the animal - knowingly dangerous - was allowed free roam around a small child. 12 years is perhaps a bit much unless they plan on charging the gas line installers with murder when pipes go faulty and car manufacturers as well when accidents are caused by faulty installation or products and children and adults parish as a result -

Two snakes, two children dead. The irony is rich indeeed. I imagine everyone in FL who is convicted will be bitter after watching that lying, psycho waste of space go free...
