A Valdosta State University student is recovering, after being hit by pick-up truck while crossing North Patterson Street.

The student is being identified as 21-year-old Elizabeth Lohmar.

When Lohmar was crossing the street, the driver hit her and stopped to help.

"Had a traffic accident at the intersection of North Patterson and College Street. A motorist was turning south onto Patterson Street and struck a pedestrian that was in the crosswalk," said Lt. Aaron Kirk, Valdosta Police Department.

Valdosta State University student, Elizabeth Lohmar, was hit by Michael Laslie, who was driving a Chevrolet Silverado on Wednesday afternoon. According to the Valdosta Police Department, Lohmar had the green signal to cross the street when she was hit. The driver is being charged with Failure to Yield to a Pedestrian in a Crosswalk.

"No indication of any drug abuse or alcohol or anything. It's just an accident, a case of the driver not seeing the person coming through the cross walk," said Lt. Kirk.

Lohmar was transferred to South Georgia Medical Center ER. She suffered internal injuries and had a lung removed. She is in critical but stable condition. The Valdosta Police Department is reminding everyone to be extremely careful when it comes to pedestrians and crosswalks.

"Being a college campus, we have a lot of pedestrians, a lot of students. For the most part they stay in the crosswalks, but we need motorists to be careful in that area, slow down, pay attention to where you're going and watch what you're doing," said Lt. Kirk.

Lohmar suffered broken bones as well.

The driver Michael Laslie was not arrested, but was issued a citation.
