Thomasville, GA- When voters head to the polls Tuesday they must decided who will claim the Thomasville City Council At Large Seat.
The race is on between the incumbent Roy Campbell and his challengers; Don Sims and Jerry Sangster.
Campbell, who has held the position since 1994, says if he is reelected, he wants to follow through on city development projects, like paving dirt roads and wrapping up the Victoria Place Redevelopment project.
"We've acquired a lot of land and we're going to build back 23 new houses in that area," Campbell said. "We're putting in curbs and gutters, putting in sidewalks and making it a real nice place to live."
Challenger Don Sims has been with a Thomasville-Thomas County Chamber of Commerce for more than two decades. He says his main focus is on creating jobs.
"I think we need an emphasis on job development, more jobs for this community," Sims said. "I have 32 years experience and I think it's just a matter of focus. There's so many things that we can do. We've been reactive; I think we can get more proactive."
As for candidate Jerry Sangster, she spent 11 years working for the City of Thomasville's accounting department. She says one of her main goals is to educate residents about the city's finances.
"We do not levy a city tax, but our utilities bill go up every year based on the expenses for the city of Thomasville," Sangster said. "I'd like to educate the council more on the finances."
Voters will decide on Tuesday November 5, 2013.
