Associated Press Release
ATLANTA (AP) -- Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed plans to announce the latest developments in negotiations for land the Falcons want to build a new stadium.
Reed is scheduled to hold a news conference Friday morning.
A city spokeswoman on Thursday confirmed a deal had been reached for the historic downtown Mount Vernon Baptist Church to receive about $14.5 million.
Mount Vernon is one of two churches that will have to be relocated if the $1 billion, retractable roof stadium NFL stadium is to be built on the Falcons' preferred site.
A lawyer for Mount Vernon Baptist Church said the church's congregation will likely hold a meeting next week to vote on the proposal.
Mayor Kasim Reed said last month a preliminary agreement had been reached with the other church.
