Residents of Lake Park, GA are anxious to find out whether or not the City will allow a controversial development project in their backyards.
The City Council will meet tonight to vote on the project.
Developers say they would like to put low income senior housing behind the Lake Park Post Office.
Residents, developers, and local leaders gathered for a community meeting recently to discuss the project.
Residents have been very vocal about their feelings on the development. They say there is no market for low income senior living in Lake Park and also say they are concerned about long-term residents that may come to stay with their grandparents or elderly parents.
They also say the area is zoned for commercial use and would bring much more revenue to Lake Park is businesses were built on the lot.
With all the rain and flooding issues that have recently occurred in South Georgia, homeowners on the lake up against the lot also say they are worried about flooding if the development is built.
We will found out tonight if the development will move forward when the City Council meets to vote at 7:30pm.

Lake Park, GA - The Lake Park City Council, residents, and developers took to Lake Park Elementary Monday night to have their voices heard regarding an apartment complex, meant for low-income seniors, in the city.
"It's really an attempt to come in and educate and to try to alleviate the fears of what people will think about the type of population that populates these projects", says Tom Kurrie, Counsel for the Developers.
Kurrie says there is a market in Lake Park for low income seniors; many of them retired or working part-time, who are looking to rent. He says renters must be over 55, make less than $25,000 a year, have no criminal record, and no children.
Many at Monday meeting worry how the managing company will regulate who visits the apartments for long periods of time, and can they legally discriminate against children.
"For purposes of senior housing, you can add a provision to the lease addendum for senior housing that there will be no children residents", says Kurrie.
Kurrie says regular inspections and should alleviate these concerns. Counsel for the residents says there is more money to be made if the lot is used for commercial purposes.
"It is zoned commercial it's been zoned commercial, and that's the highest and best use for the property by the planning commission both historically and in to the future", Wayne Ellerbee, Counsel for the Residents of Lake Park .
Ellerbee says there is plenty of land already zoned as residential that can be used for this project.
The Lake Park City Council will vote on the development at their meeting on may 6th at 7:30pm.
