Since Taylor County Deputy Robert Lundy was shot in early February, friends, family and strangers wasted no time rallying to support his recovery.

"I just feel like thank you is not enough," his wife Kelly said nearly a month ago.

Since then, thousands of dollars have been raised by the community.

And now, Saturday brings another fundraiser, Run for Lundy, a 5K run/walk organized by four North Florida Community College students.

The students were required to do a community project for a class.

"For us to have this opportunity to do it, it was right there, and it really hit home," Amber Wilson, NFCC LPN student said.

The cost is $10 to participate. The students created a Facebook page for the event and it has more than 600 members.

"We've spoken to his wife, and his kids know. They're really thankful that we're doing this," Miranda Ross, NFCC LPN Student said.

Officer Lundy was off-duty when the shooting happened.

He was able to shoot and kill the shooter but not before being shot himself.

He's making progress recovering at Shands Hospital in Gainesville. All the money will go directly to him, his wife and two daughters.

"Every little bit helps and it will help out the family a lot," Wilson said.

Participants will register and sign up at Java Connections in the Historic Perry Train Station at 7am.

The 5k will then kick off at 8am.

The students will also be collecting donations for the family.

Checks should be made payable to Run for Lundy.

Madison County, FL - "It gives me chill bumps to think about it. He was in the right place at the right time and I think that was God looking down on all the people at the Ford place," said Brook Williams, NFCC LPN Student.

Brooke Williams will never forget the day that Taylor County Deputy Robert Lundy and two others were shot at the Timberland Ford Dealership in Perry. Now Williams and other nursing students at North Florida Community College are organizing a 5k Walk/Run "Run For Lundy" to try and help the deputy and his family.

"It was a tragic accident and it affected all of us. We just thought we had to do a community project and we didn't think of anyone better than him," said Williams.

"We were so surprised. We started a facebook page and within like thirty minutes we had almost 100 likes and it's just really great for people to come together for a project like that," said Kasey Odom, NFCC LPN Student.

It's a class project for the group of five LPN students: Brooke Williams, Kasey Odom, Miranda Ross, Alyssa Dyal and Amber Wilson. The groups said what started out as a class project has grown into so much more. All the proceeds from the run will go to the Lundy family to help with medical bills and other expenses.

"We're all nurses so we just thought that he's in the hospital and will be for a long time so we thought we would give back to the community," said Williams.

The 5k will be held on April 5TH at Java Connections in downtown Perry with the race starting at 8:00A.M.

The entry fee is $10.00 and you sign up in advance at Java Connections, Regan's Ace Hardware and the Sheriff's Office in Perry. You can also register the day of the race.

Prizes will be awarded to the first five finishers of the race.

You can find their Facebook page by searching "Run For Lundy" and all checks should be made out to "Run For Lundy"
