Tallahassee, Florida — Feb. 8, 2012 -

Today, former Mayor and City Commissioner Scott Maddox announced his intention to seek the City Commission seat being vacated by Mark Mustian.

Maddox was flanked by family, friends and community leaders who joined in the announcement held at the downtown chain of parks near Adams Street.

“Tallahassee is a great place to live and I want to make sure we keep it moving in the right direction,” stated Maddox. “With so many incredible things going on, from great new parks, to downtown redevelopment, and an incredible city workforce, I believe we need an experienced hand to help us emerge strong from these tough times.”

Maddox was joined by a number of community leaders including former Economic Development Council Chairman and local business owner, Kim Williams. Williams expressed support for Maddox’s efforts to expand and diversify the local economy and stated, “I encouraged Scott to run because he has been a leader in helping us diversify and grow our local economy long before it was politically popular. I believe that now, more than ever, we need to keep our eyes focused on bringing jobs – good jobs – to Tallahassee and Scott Maddox is the right man to help us do that.”

Noted environmental leader Craig Diamond praised Maddox’s environmental efforts and greenway expansion while on the commission, “Scott has always shown a proper sensitivity to our quality of life, whether in setting aside beautiful green spaces or understanding the role that preservation plays in making Tallahassee such a wonderful place to live.”

Business leader Barney Bishop added “Under Scott Maddox’s leadership we had lower taxes, lower utility rates and six air carriers at the airport. We need his leadership back on the City Commission.”

As Tallahassee’s first Leadership Mayor, Maddox was noted for his role in bringing low-cost airlines to the city’s airport, expanding our local parks (which were later recognized as the Best In America) and earning the city the designation as an All-American City. He also lead the city in an award-winning race relations initiative that was praised by Miaisha Mitchell who expressed her support by saying, “Scott respects the diversity of our community and fully understands the important role that each of us plays in making this a truly blessed place to raise a family – for that reason, I encouraged him to run and plan on giving him my full support.” During Maddox’s tenure as Mayor his leadership was recognized statewide by his peers as they overwhelmingly selected him to serve as President of the Florida League of Cities.

Maddox is filing for the Tallahassee City Commission Seat 1, which is an at-large seat. The non-partisan election will be held on August 14, 2012.
