[UPDATE] Semi Catches on Fire In Madison County

Madison County, FL - October 13, 2012

A semi's trailer caught fire and caused its driver to quickly stop in the emergency lane of I-10 in Madison County near the 261 mile post.

The driver, Latrell Alexander (age 30), of Statesboro, Georgia
disconnected the truck from the burning trailer to save the truck. Mr. Alexander suffered a minor burn to his forearm in the incident.

He was transported to the Madison Hospital for treatment. The trailer, loaded with fresh produce, was completely destroyed. One lane of I-10 had to be closed and traffic was reduced to one lane.

Assistance with traffic control was provided by the Madison County Sheriff's Office. Madison County Fire Rescue extinguished the fire.

The semi trailer burned completely.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the trailer of a semi truck caught fire while driving east on I-10.

The incident happened around 1 p.m. Saturday and it was near exit 258 in Madison County.

The driver was not seriously injured, but did suffer burns to his arm, according to EMS officials.

The trailer was carrying produce and officials say the wheels caught fire. It reached the bottom of the trailer and made its way inside.

No other vehicle was involved in the incident.
