Press Release: Florida Highway Patrol
Samantha Nissley, 21, of Tallahassee, Fla., was attempting to enter I-10 via the westbound entrance ramp from U.S. Highway 27 N in a 2006 Toyota Tacoma.
Owen Nelson, 35, of Pensacola, Fla., traveling in a 2005 Freightliner Truck (semi), was headed westbound in the middle lane, around where the entrance ramp merges onto I-10, when Nissley lost control of the Tacoma at the bottom of the entrance ramp, going across the westbound lanes directly into the path of the Semi.
Nelson attempted to avoid a collision with the Tacoma, but was unsuccessful causing the front-right of the Semi to collide with the left side of the Tacoma in the middle lane.
Both vehicles continued westbound and came to rest partially in the center median and the inside lane of I-10 with the Semi against the Tacoma.
Nissley sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Tallahassee Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Both Owen Nelson, and his passenger, Sequoria Evans, 37, of Pensacola, Fla., were not injured.
The Florida Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Leon County Sheriff's Office, Tallahassee Police Department, Tallahassee Fire Department, and Leon County Emergency Medical Services.
