Tallahassee, FL - The Tallahassee Police Department honored members of its force today and citizens who stepped up to make a difference in the community.

Cheryl Everett isn't a cop, but she received the Police Service Award. You may remember earlier this year when some men tried to rob her store, The Tallahassee Diamond Center on Market Street. Everett recognized them from a different robbery and her employees alerted the police. She even followed them into the parking lot to get the license plate number on their getaway car.

Cheryl Everett, Tallahassee Diamond Center owner: "We honestly feel like we were just doing what we were supposed to do, what we would normally do, so to get an honor from the police department, get recognition, is just over the top. It's very cool."

Police caught up to the men at the plantation at Pine Lakes Apartments. Everett said that the best part about that day was that nothing was stolen, no one was hurt, and the bad guys are now off the street.
