Taylor County, FL - Two men broke out of a local prison and were on the run for hours. Officials say the men are now back in custody.

It was a scary moment for people who live and work near the prison.

Two inmates escaped and no one had a clue how or where they were going.

The hunt was on for two escaped inmates from Taylor Correctional Institution in Taylor County, but just hours later the hunt was over.

Perry Police say 50 year old David Black and 25 year old Daniel Mitchell broke out of the Taylor Work Camp around 4:15 Wednesday evening.

We spoke with Shelby Gibson. She's with Deal's Famous Oyster House down the street. It was a scary moment for her and others who work and live in the area.

Shelby Gibson, Deal's Famous Oyster House, stated, "well the first thing that we did was to make sure that our employees had a buddy system if they went outside for anything or if they had to do something...We also made sure the back door was safely locked and everyone that was in here stayed safe."

Officials say the two men were traveling south of the prison in the wooded areas. The local police department, sheriff's office and department of corrections joined in on the search. K-9 units were brought in. Within four hours of the escape, the men were caught and back in custody.

WCTV is hearing from officials that the two men that escaped Taylor Work Camp this afternoon have been caught.

They are currently debriefing on what exactly happened.

They say they will release a statement in the near future.
