NAVARRE, Fla. (AP) -- Rough surf along Florida's Panhandle has claimed three tourists in separate drowning incidents.
Former Auburn University basketball star Korvotney Barber of Manchester, Ga., drowned Saturday evening off Panama City beach. Also Saturday, Troy Underwood of Rex, Ga., drowned off Panama City Beach, according to the Panama City News Herald.
A third man drowned Saturday on a stretch of beach between Pensacola Beach and Navarre in Santa Rosa County. Officials said Jeremy Aaron Johnson of New Orleans was found dead by emergency officials responding to a call about two distressed swimmers. Rescuers saved one man but were unable to reach Johnson in time.
Beach communities throughout the Panhandle had posted red flags on Saturday to encourage people to stay out of the water because of the rough surf.
