A water main break in Tallahassee causes the road to collapse and takes an SUV down with it.
The 8-inch main broke around 9:30 a.m. on Bantry Bay Drive.
An SUV driving along the road at the time fell into a hole as the road gave-way. No one was hurt. Everyone inside the SUV got out safely.
Water to the area was shut off as crews worked to repair the main. About 25 customers were affected.
The City says water has since been restored and the road is back open.
The cause of the break is under investigation.
Tallahassee, FL - 10:43 am - The City was notified of the break around 9:45 this morning. About 25 customers are without water at this time, after an 8 inch pipe was busted. The area is primarily residential, so no businesses are with out water. Officials are not sure what caused the bust. They are hoping service can be restored around 1:30 pm this afternoon.
Tallahassee, FL - 10:30 am - A water main break occurred around 9am this morning along Bantry Bay Drive and Rockhaven Lane. The break caused the road on Bantry Bay Drive to weaken, and an SUV driving along the road fell in to a hole created by the weakened roadway. Two people were inside the SUV at the time. Both exited the vehicle safely. Currently, crews from the City of Tallahassee are working on repairing the hole. There is no information on what caused the main break or when the roadway will be safe to drive.
