United Way of the Big Bend Release
TALLAHASSEE, Fla., February 5, 2012 – There was a lot of excitement leading up to this past weekend’s 47th Super Bowl, but nowhere was suspense higher than here in Tallahassee as the winner of two tickets to the game waited to be announced. After a two week long campaign, United Way of the Big Bend President and CEO Heather Mitchell pulled the winning ticket this past Thursday, sending Darrell Goodwin and his family to New Orleans for a once in a lifetime experience.
With the 2012-2013 United Way of the Big Bend annual campaign drawing to a close, the opportunity to win a prize package with a value of more than $1,000 was announced last month by UWBB Campaign Chair Ron Sachs. By making a donation of $100 to the UWBB each donor was entered into a drawing to win two tickets to this year’s Super Bowl XLVll in New Orleans, a $100 gas card, and two nights at the Sun Suites of Metarie, located a mere 11 miles from the Superdome. Over 150 individuals participated in this drawing, raising about $15,000 for the UWBB.
Darrell Goodwin was already in Louisiana preparing for Sunday’s big game when the drawing came to a close on Thursday afternoon. His wife, Susan, and his children stopped by the UWBB office on Friday afternoon to pick up their tickets and to share their excitement with the staff. According to Susan, she and her daughter would be attending the game while the rest of the family watched from the hotel room. On Sunday, Susan texted from the game and expressed her thanks: “Just wanted to say thanks and that this experience is awesome! Definitely a bucket list item! So glad we could check this one off!”
The UWBB received the Super Bowl tickets as a donation from an anonymous donor who wanted to help UWBB reach its 2012 campaign goal. This is the first time the UWBB has organized a drawing for tickets to the big game, but based on the positive feedback from social media and callers, this proved to be a great success for the Goodwin Family and the UWBB.
