Tallahassee, FL - "We're trying to raise a little bit of funds to repay their kindness," said Yoshiko Murtick of Japanese Community of Tallahassee. Murtick is talking about the relief effort fundraiser that took place on the front porch of LeMoyne Center For The Visual Arts Sunday afternoon. It was all to help a fellow country who has suffered from a natural disaster. "The Filipino community helped us in 2011 when the Japanese people suffered from the earthquake," said Murtick.

The Japanese Community of Tallahassee came up with the idea of selling Japanese inspired art. On sale were origami's, handmade Japanese style Christmas ornaments as well as Anpan. Anpan is a traditional Japanese treat that is made of bread dough with red bean paste inside.

The annual Holiday Show LeMoyne puts on was happening at the same time. When approached about having a relief effort on the front porch the store said it was a definite yes. "We just thought it would be a really nice to do. We like to work with other organizations in town," said Heather Dunbar of LeMoyne.

All the money raised Sunday will go to the Asian Coalition of Tallahassee. From there the money will be sent to the Red Cross. If you're interested in donating you can call the Asian Coalition of Tallahassee at 850-219-9799.
